Services Below are the services offered by Harbor House. All services are free and confidential. 24-Hour Crisis Line: We offer the only 24-hour crisis line in Elko, White Pine, and Crisis Intervention: CADV is the only agency in Food Baskets: Although there are organizations in Shelter: CADV operates Harbor House, the only long-term safehouse in Peer Counseling: CADV provides peer counseling and support to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their families. Options are explored, action plans developed with clients, education and referrals are provided during sessions. Victim Advocacy: Victim advocates are available to accompany victims to the hospital, law enforcement interviews, civil standbys, and meetings at other agencies. These accompaniments are important since victims are often upset. The advocate ensures the victim understands the information provided. The advocate is also there to assist the victim after these meetings and during follow through. Court Advocacy: Advocates are available to assist with TPO applications and accompany victims to, court, and other hearings. The advocate does not represent the victim legally but acts as a support person. Advocates accompany victims in courtrooms throughout the service area, traveling as necessary to outlying areas, e.g. Wendover, Jackpot, Wells, Ely, Recovery Program: A support group provides a safe place for victims to talk about what has happened to them, express emotions, identify goals, and heal. The goal of CADV's groups is to develop survival skills necessary for a non-violent lifestyle and managing life transitions in everyday society. CADV facilitates weekly support groups (English and Spanish) for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Outreach: With the closure of Support, Inc. CADV is providing services to White Pine and Education and Prevention: Speakers are available through the Committee Against Domestic Violence for educational programs on domestic violence and sexual assault. Topics include the dynamics of abuse, personalities, available assistance, and prevention. Programs are available for all age groups. Presentations are provided to Joining to End Violence in Elko: CADV collaborates with the Elko County Sheriff's Department, the City of Elko Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies to provide a comprehensive continuum of services to victims through advocacy, training, and investigative equipment. Legal Assistance: CADV received an annual grant from the Nevada Law Foundation to provide funds for victims of domestic violence to retain legal services. Local attorneys agree to represent victims at a reduced rate for a specified number of hours as an in-kind donation. The fee for those hours was paid by CADV's IOLTA fund. CADV now collaborates with VARN for those legal services. CADV screens applicants for domestic violence, assists with applications and provides other assistance during legal representation. CADV employs a paralegal to assist with this process. Confidential Address Program: CADV is certified by the Secretary of State for C.A.P. (Confidential Address Program) in the state of Immigrant Status: Through the Violence Against Women Act immigrant women may be eligible for legal status as a victim of domestic violence. CADV advocates are trained to assess eligibility. CADV provides assistance with the application process and acquiring the necessary documentation. CADV employs a bilingual advocate for Spanish speaking victims. Volunteers speaking other languages such as Russian and French are available for other non-English speaking victims. Victims Compensation: CADV provides current applications for county and state compensation for victims. CADV assists victims in completing the applications and throughout the approval process.
